Alt Tag

An image alt tag is a text alternative for an image. Alternative text is especially useful in the following situations:

• For visitors using low bandwidth Internet connections
• For visitors with disabilities who use assistive technology, such as refreshable braille displays or screen readers
• Search engine optimisation: most search engines interpret the meaning of objects by analysing their alt tag

Use of an alt tag is neccessary to comply with accessibility standards. However, an empty alt tag should be used if an image is there for purely decorative purposes.
